PyGotham II, June 2012, Manhattan - 5 July 2012
Chris LeBlanc, a software developer with GLOBE Claritas, attended the PyGotham conference in New York City on the 8th and 9th of June 2012.
This young but vibrant conference had a diverse group of attendees and presenters. The event sponsors, Enthought, gave several presentations on scientific programming with Python, as did several others. The PyGotham conference was an excellent chance to see how people are using various new approaches to high performance computing and "big data" problems. There were various presenters from fields such as bioinformatics, finance, and others. It was useful to see how these approaches differed from the typical approaches used in seismic processing, and what advantages and disadvantages they offered especially in scalability.
We'll be keeping on top of these technologies as they evolve to offer our users an even better seismic processing solution.
